Analytics are so much more fun when they are beautiful.
JD Hooge over at GridPlane does some very interesting work. These visuals were for Google and show a series of data visualization concepts for Google. These interface sketches are are all based around a concept of aggregating and visualizing online media buzz across various social media outlets.
Very cool use of Google Analytics and Flash and seems a rich way to show users relationships across data sets, traffic etc.
The world’s largest open venture capital and private equity directory
By now many of you have probably seen this already. For those of you who have not, this is a pretty interesting database of venture investors all over the world. Another thing most of you probably know already: cold calling venture investors has a terribly low success rate. If you do decide to do it, don’t send this most irritating of emails which is received more often than any other that these ladies and gentleman receive on a daily basis.
“I’ve got a ground-breaking idea that I’m like to share with you in person if you would be so kind as to take my meeting. Please let me know so we can arrange a time to talk…”
Don’t do this.
Everything about everything involves selling on one form or another.
Sell them on who you are and why you and your team ARE NOT like every other email that hit their inbox on that day. Write a terribly compelling email. If you aren’t sure whether your email is compelling, talk to some other entrepreneurs who have raised money before you hit the send button!
Where do good ideas come from…
..and perhaps more importantly, what role do they play in business.
This is the talk I was asked to give tonight for the University of Washington MBA school (Michael G. Foster School of Business). This talk is part of the CIE Business Plan Competition 2009 in which the chosen winner receives $25,000.
Good luck everyone!~

A friend forwarded me this link today. You don’t see such transparency with prices for this kind of product very often. Some serious eye candy here.
A little foreign inspiration
I look at new site designs on domestic portals all the time. http://bm.straightline.jp/ has a decidely Asian influence. Worth a look if you ever want some new ideas.
