Go Shelfari!

Shelfari

Someone told me today that Shelfari could claim “hundreds” of thousands of users. That means you have to have at least more than 200,000 to say that :)

C’mon Josh and team…make us proud! Seattle has a long history in online books. Therefore, Shelfari must become the largest online network for book lovers :)

A Curious company has been acquired

It wasn’t long ago that Curious Office took an interest in Peter Cooper’s project called FeedDigest. We used the system ourselves on several sites. FeedDigest is a professional service (built on Ruby on Rails) that blends and converts RSS and Atom feeds to other formats for publishing. Based in Russia, Vicman Software is acquiring the company for an undisclosed sum. We’re very happy with the outcome and we look forward to working with Peter again in the future if the opportunity presents itself. It’s been an interesting year for us in that we’ve found ourselves associated with a lot of innovative and aggressive European investors. Imagekind was primarily funded by a large European VC and other individual German investors. I hadn’t heard of Vicman software before Peter mentioned them to us. But, it seems they have a thriving consumer business and even more ideas for the future. Anyway, congratulations to Peter for the sale and for developing such a useful product!

Rather interesting service

Anyone that has ever done a small e-commerce thing has had to struggle with the issues around packaging and shipping. It’s a big pain. And if you are just starting out with a test concept you have enough to worry about besides figuring out how to optimize in that area. It seems that a service like Shipwire is a great solution for small-mid sized shippers. You create a unique SKU for each individual product you offer and then choose your maximum monthly budget, and enter credit card information. The online software creates an RMA # (return number for returns) for you, and gives you
a shipping address. You can either provide custom boxes or just dump all your inventory in their lap and they will “pick and pack” on your behalf. You then deliver orders via XML, select the US Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx Freight to deliver the goods and they handle the rest. They pay shipping costs and it goes to your account. Pretty cool.
